Under the organization of the European Cooperation in Legal Metrology (WELMEC e.V.) on 23 November 2022, an online seminar was held on the topic of challenges in the application of MID and NAWI, which was attended by the assistant director Zoran Ćetković.

The main topics of the seminar were the perspective of legal metrology from the point of view of the European Commission, the position of the MID and NAWI Directives, as well as the opinions of representatives of the measuring instruments industry.

The topics related to measuring instruments in digital transformation, social challenges in relation to legal metrology and opportunities for future harmonization in that area were also discussed. The main challenges that were considered are technological development in the field of measurement, digital transformation, the diversity of provisions at the national level after placing measuring instruments in use and on the market, improving confidence in measurement results, as well as the initiative for harmonization of national provisions related to measuring instruments after placing them on the market and in use. Accordingly, the European Commission has stated that they are currently identifying problems, which will be followed by an analysis of priorities and the need to initiate changes to regulations, i.e. directives of the European Union.

The seminar was attended by about 130 representatives of national metrology institutes and institutions that are members of the European Cooperation in Legal Metrology, then a European Commission representative from EuCom DG Grow, as well as some representatives of manufacturers of measuring instruments, i.e. the measuring instruments industry.
