Activities
The Laboratory for Large Volumes carries out the following tasks:
- Realizes, preserves, maintains and improves all national measurement standards of large volumes in Montenegro;
- Establishes metrological traceability in the field of large volumes in Montenegro by transferring the unit of volume from the national measurement standard onto secondary and working volume measurement standards;
- Develops measuring methods for transferring the unit of volume;
- Performs calibration of metal overflow pipettes in the range from 5 l to 100 l;
- Performs calibration of measuring cups in the range from 1 l to 1000 l;
- Participates in interlaboratory comparisons;
- Assesses conformity with the prescribed technical and metrological requirements for determining the type of a volume measuring instrument;
- Performs verification of volume measuring instruments.
National Measurement Standard
Measurement standards of overflow metal pipette of volumes 5 l, 10 l, 50 l, 100 l constitute the national measurement standard in the Laboratory for Large Volumes for the volumetric calibration method.
Calibration of Measurement Standards
Accredited area
By means of the gravimetric method:
- Calibration of over flow pipettes in the range from 5 l do 100 l;
- Calibration of metal standard capacity measures in the range from 2 l do 500 l;
- Calibration of glass standard capacity measures in the range from 1 l to 10 l.
By means of the volumetric method:
- Calibration of metal standard capacity measures in the range from 5 l to 1000 l.
Verification of Measuring Instruments
The Laboratory for Large Volumes carries out the procedure of examination of volume measuring instruments in order to determine compliance with the prescribed metrological requirements with an aim to verify the following volume measuring instruments:
- Instruments for measuring the volume of liquids;
- Milk meters.
Type Approval of Measuring Instruments
In order to assess conformity with the prescribed technical and metrological requirements and determine the type of a measuring instrument, the Laboratory for Large Volumes carries out type examination for the following measuring instruments in the field of volume measurement pursuant to the Decree on legal measuring instruments that are subject to mandatory verification or type approval (Official Gazette of Montenegro 81/09):
- Water meters;
- Gas meters;
- Gas volume correctors;
- Milk meters;
- Liquid flow meters and measuring systems for liquids other than water.
Traceability Scheme
- For the gravimetric calibration method internally, through the traceability of the Laboratory for Mass by means of two weight sets with E1 accuracy class in the range from 1 mg to 20 kg;
- For the volumetric calibration method – through national volume measurement standards, standard of metal overflow pipettes of volumes 5 l, 10 l, 50 l and 100 l with traceability of calibration results to the laboratories of National Metrology Institutes or EURAMET Designated Institutes which have published their CMC(s) in the BIPM key comparison database (BIPM KCDB) or are accredited by an accreditation body signatory to EA MLA agreement.
