On the occasion of marking 20 May – World Metrology Day, the Bureau of Metrology is organizing an “Open Day of the Laboratory for Pressure ” on 19 May 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., where the citizens will have the opportunity to check the accuracy of their blood pressure gauge.
Citizens are often interested to find out how they can check the measuring devices they have in their home pharmacies. Therefore, we have decided to enable an accuracy check of the blood pressure gauge on the specified day for all interested parties, completely free of charge.
Based on the Law on Metrology, owners, users and persons who use measuring devices are obliged to install, use and maintain legal measuring devices in a manner that ensures the prescribed accuracy of measurement.
We remind that public and private healthcare institutions in Montenegro are obliged to use all measuring devices used for the protection of people’s health only if they meet the prescribed metrological requirements and if they are verified and marked with the prescribed marks. The verification of measuring devices, which includes inspection and marking, is prescribed, among other things, for blood pressure manometers.
The Bureau of Metrology is responsible for verifying measuring devices in the area of pressure, while the authority for metrological and inspection supervision is exercised by the Administration for Inspection Affairs, through metrological inspectors.
The verification of blood pressure manometers is carried out exclusively on the basis of requests of the parties, for example, importers of these measuring devices or healthcare institutions, and is carried out on a biennial basis.
In 2022, slightly more than 100 manometers were inspected at the Bureau of Metrology, while in 2021, 301 blood pressure manometers were inspected.
This year, the World Metrology Day is celebrated in more than 80 countries with the topic “Metrology in the Digital Era” and is organized by the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML). It marks the anniversary of the signing of the Metre Convention on 20 May 1875, the aim of which was to provide a uniform system of measurement units in the world.
In addition to the aforementioned activity of the Laboratory for Pressure of the Bureau of Metrology, on the occasion of the World Metrology Day, visits to the national calibration laboratories by students of the University of Donja Gorica, elementary school students and representatives of the PRONA Foundation were also organized.
